Dr. King Would be Appalled: UPDATED

So I wrote this post last night, but decided to wait till this morning to edit it. Since then, I realized that Matthew Archbold has already addressed this. But I've decided to post this anyways. Also, I did a bit of redesigning. Let me know what you think.

Were he to see what the media has become, I firmly believe that Dr. King would despair. In the last few weeks, it seems every network, and a good portion of the newspapers in this country, has some kind of story on how the GOP Candidates are pandering to the racist white folk in South Carolina. Here are just a few of the many articles found with a simple Google News Search for "GOP racism" and "Newt Gingrich Racism"

From Mediaite: Jimmy Carter tells Piers Morgan that Gingrich has 'Subtlety of Racism'
There's even a video that goes with this one. It's really sad the way Jimmy Carter thinks he's still relevant.
Chris Matthews Accuses Newt Gingrich of Racially Charged Use of the Name Juan

From NewsBusters: Behar and Goldberg See Racism when Gingrich Talks of Helping Poor

Fox Nation reports: [Rep.] Sheila Jackson Lee: Newt Using 'Codewords' to be Racist

From the Huffington Post: Chris Matthews: Newt Gingrich May be Speaking in Racial Code (VIDEO)

Media Research Center: CNN Hints at 'Racial Coding' in Gingrich's Words

And, the Grand-daddy of them all... The Daily Beast: Michael Tomasky: Newt's Racist Surge May Sink Romney in South Carolina!

Now, I need some help here; I'm feeling inadequate. I am a middle-class, white, male, Texan college-student at a notoriously Conservative school. I fit perfectly into the demographic the GOP is aiming their coded racism at. But, I don't see it! And I want to see it, I need to see it! So, if any of you out there can help me out and just tell me which candidate hates black people the most it would be greatly appreciated. I've been trying to see who is the most racist, and I've been disappointed by how un-racist they seem. Luckily, the Media was there to clue me in to the fact that they're using coded racism. So, yeah, just let me know.

UPDATE: Watching MSNBC election coverage tonight, I want to throw up. Apparently "Food Stamp President" is racist, and, by God, MSNBC is gonna make sure we all know that Newt Gingrich and all Republicans are racist, homophobic backwards hillbillies. If I lived in South Carolina, I would be so pissed I wouldn't be able to speak. Al Sharpton should tender his resignation to MSNBC, withdraw from public life, and spend his retirement away from the media, reflecting on how he cheapened the meaning of the word "racism." Al Sharpton, like his colleague Jesse Jackson, long ago lost all credibility by pimping out his status as a Civil Rights hero for "influence" and TV appearances. He should be ashamed of himself. He should be ashamed of the way he has betrayed the Black Community. He should resign the title of "Reverend," and he should spend some time thinking about what Dr. King would think of his actions over the last decade or so. Shame on you , Al Sharpton.

Thank the Lord I go to an incredibly conservative college, because if I hear one more person say Gingrich is race-baiting I might just punch them in the face. Or headbutt them. I haven't made up my mind on which will hurt the most.

  1. Gingrich addressed Juan Williams as "Juan." So WHAT? He said it like a white guy. I don't expect every white guy to properly pronounce Spanish names like Juan, Esteban, Jose, Guillermo or any one of the many names bestowed upon Hispanics. They're names written in different language and as such they're pronounced differently. You can't accuse someone of race-baiting by pronouncing them incorrectly, unless it's done so purposely or with a negative tone, neither of which Newt did.
